Carefully lift the fish preventing it from jumping out of the net or breaking the handle of the net. You should be ready with the net, when the angler swings the fish over your side. Help your partner when he gets a fish on, be ready to drop what you are doing and get the net. Some net handles may be collapsible, so make sure that the net is completely secure and ready for fishing.
Decide the side of the boat you will be netting from. Keep the net under the water, but leave some parts of net out, so that the angler can get a clear view where he needs to get the fish.
If the fish is past the rim of the net, immediately lift the net with a slight scoop motion. For large fishes, do not scoop the net, rather hold the handle of the net in a vertical position and lift the net out of the water. After the fish is caught, don’t place it on the front or back deck of the boat, because the fish can jump back into the water with a single leap. The bottom of the boat is much safer than front and back.
